Always In Search of Antiquities - Rich Childers

Anyone that knew Bill knows he was in perpetual search for hidden treasures and undiscovered priceless relics of historic and cultural significance. Spending countless hours in antique stores looking for that original signed copy of Darwin's Origin of the Species, or the $10 ceramic figure from an Egyptian tomb that has escaped detection by everyone until the master collector laid eyes on it. I believe it was around 1991 when I was helping Bill repair some irrigation lines in his yard which required a fair amount of digging and dirt removal. I was on shovel duty and watched Bill suddenly bend over the wheel barrow full of dirt and pull out a piece of what looked like a small greyish piece of pottery. I could read his mind as he carefully brushed away the encrusting dirt on the object: Possibly a fragment of Chumash Indian pottery he thought? Perhaps a chillum pipe used during tribal ceremonies? Bill inspected the assumed artifact closely and after a few seconds tossed it into the bottom of the ditch we were digging. He looked at me and said two words: dog turd.
